Lifestyle Choices

Your Daily Attitudes Can Determine Your Day's Accomplishments

Everyone controls the kind of day they will have by just homestly looking at the attitudes they are projecting to the people around them. The choices they make and results of those choices will always be quite obvious. Poor attiudes projected outward equals a negative, unhappy day. Good attitudes equals a positive rewarding day. It is a daily personal choice that will affect a person's life and their levels of enjoyment.

De-Stressing Your Life By Practicing Acceptance

Stress, which affects everyone at some time, is often the result of an external event beyond a person's control or a series of circumstances that have not been properly dealt with.

Accepting some of those inevitable less than pleasant changes to one's life and lifestyle is never easy. Taking the necessary steps to adjust to the positive changes can be so difficult that some people decide not to make the transition effort. It may seem easier for that person to just accept the changes as part of their daily aggravations and personal chaos. That may be a mistake. Ultimately, the results of that decision can be unhappiness, bitterness and both psychological and physical health problems into the future.

The positive approach is for the individual to make the necessary positive readjustments to life and lifestyles. Working to find honest solutions and to improve any situation shifts the focus from a negative viewpoint of "problems to endure" to a positive viewpoint of "challenges to be resolved."

Enjoying Your Life More

Vacationing At Sea

oasistheaterReady for a vacation that is different everyday? According to the Cruise Lines International Association, that is easily achieved when you board anyone of dozens of cruise ships sailing from U.S. and Canadian ports to a variety of destinations. Once aboard, your lifestyle is your choice and as the association notes, you can simply "Fall asleep in one destination and awake to a new horizon... and you only have to pack and unpack once!"

Value is on everyone's mind and a cruise ship ticket covers the costs of your cabin, dining, entertainment and more. Many ships now offer alternative restaurants on-board at extra cost but it then gives the passenger greater freedom in menu options and dining times. "Tantalize your taste buds with gourmet fare that showcases exotic ingredients, old standbys like pizza and ice cream or spa cuisine for a healthy alternative. Depending on your mood, dine in a traditional ballroom setting, a small bistro or a casual eatery," according the cruise association.

The different cruise lines offer a great varity of ship sizes and capacities. They range from ones large enough for a simulation of New York City's Central Park atmosphere to smallery luxury cruise ships where you can swim or snorkel in the clear water when the vessel drops anchor in a quiet island cove. Secluded beaches, dining on your private balcony overlooking the ocean and spa services for two are just some of the romantic pursuits available to enjoy.

Most cruise lines cater to families offering well supervised children's programs, kid-friendly menus and tours of the ship designed to keep the kids happy ad simultaneously giving parents some time alone. For everyone, the variety of daytime activities on board include great spas, swimming pools some with large slides, sightseeing, sports activities, cultural lectures, educational tours led by naturalists and historians or simply lounge by the pool and relax. At night, the entertainment options range from dance extravaganzas, musical revues or gaming in the casino. There is always time and space either on your own balcony or from the open deck to enjoy watching the ocean or a quiet evening gazing at the stars.

Relax and Travel to the Grand Canyon by Train

trainThe restoration of passenger train travel about twenty years ago to the Grand Canyon National Park restored an old traditional, comfortable way to reach the rim of the Grand Canyon and the hotel accommodations in the park. The rail operator and tour company offers one day round trips although the 3 day, 2 night and 4 day, 3 night packages allow greater opportunities to visit all the attractions of the national park not possible by the one day trips.

The Grand Canyon Railway is headquartered in Williams, Arizona. The daily train's basic schedule departs from Williams at 9:00 AM and arrives at the Grand Canyon's South Rim at 11:45 AM. The return trip leaves Grand Canyon at 3:30 PM and arrives back in Williams at 5:45 PM.

The restored passenger train traveling to the Grand Canyon National Park recreated a comfortable way to reach the rim of the Grand Canyon and the hotel accommodations in the national park. This train travel uses totally modernized passenger cars that were originally built for the major pivate railroads when passenger service was the fastest and best way to travel. Unfortunately, that comfortable way to travel began to decline and effectively ended in the late 1960s.

Since then, Amtrak has provided a smaller although still a comprehensive American national passenger rail system. Amtrak's Southwest Chief, Trains 3 and 4, includes a stop at Williams, Arizona that provides the connection with the Grand Canyon Railway. The Southwest Chief which provides passenger on-board services in coaches, sleeping cars, diners and lounges operating between the end point cities of Chicago and Los Angeles seven days a week including stops at 31 smaller cities and towns enroute including Kansas City and Albuquerque.

Getting & Staying Healthy

Men's Health - Looking Fit and Being Healthier

bodyExercise is an important path to good health for everyone. It takes work and dedication for everyone on tight schedules to consistently schedule in the necessary gym time. Once there, it's important that the time at the gym should be put to the best uses by using the best combination of exercise routines. It is no secret that one of the best visual indicators that a man's exercise routine is successful is the steady loss of "the fat stomach" and replacing it with the lean muscles of a six-pack.

A recent Men's Health article written by Adam Campbell said, "The fitness industry is a crazy business, especially when it comes to abs. For example, if you want to reveal your six-pack, you generally have two product choices.

1. The too-easy-to-work method. You know this better as "5-minute abs!" or some such hype. But if this approach were really effective, even Chris Christie would have a washboard.

2. The so-hard-it-has-to-work method. Think 60 to 90 minutes of exercise, 6 days a week. Now if you have the time and energy for this kind of regimen, we commend you. But plenty of people are missing one or the other. And that's just reality, not a cop-out.

So we wondered: Could there be an ab-sculpting program that actually works and is doable for most people? For the answer, we turned to Mike Wunsch, C.S.C.S., and Craig Rasmussen, C.S.C.S., creators of Men's Health's newest fat-loss plan, 24-Hour Abs! The answer: 'Absolutely,' says Wunsch, who teams up with Rasmussen to design the workout programs at Results Fitness in Santa Clarita, California."

Vision Health - Macular Degeneration

For most people, the ability to see the world around them is taken for granted. But increasingly, for people especially after the age of 55, macular degeneration may be a silent thief stealing their eyesight possibly leaving them increasingly visually impaired.

Macular degeneration is a evolving degenerative eye disease that can result in the loss of vision by spreading outward as a growing black spot from the normal center of vision. As the disease takes hold, according to the Mayo Clinic, "People with macular degeneration may notice either a rapid onset of symptoms, slight symptoms that progress gradually, or no symptoms at all. Doctors may decide to test for the disease based on family history and symptoms the patient is experiencing."

Chloe Allows Sami To Run Again

At 16 years old, one Ohio high school student loves to run. But when Sami Stoner became visually impaired due to Stargardt's Disease that enjoyment in her life might have been over except for her persistance, the help of a specially trained guide dog and the support of good people around her. Stargardt's Disease is a type of Macular Degeneration eye disease that is irreversible and can eventually result in blindness. For visually impaired people, the use of a guide dog can allow the person to walk safely inside and outside their home. In this case, the one-and-a-half year old Golden Retriever named Chloe and Sami have bonded so well that the two of them can safely run miles in cross country races. Sami's philosophy is, "When one door closes, another one opens." The challenge she overcame was that, " "Even if you have a disability or you think you can't do something, there's almost always a way."

The Business Side of Your Life

Personal Finances - Protecting Your Assets

goldbullionMost individual's financial security and investment approaches have been significantly challenged since 2008 by the economic roller coaster to which most folks have been subjected. The November 2011 Standard and Poor's Case-Shiller National Home Price Index "recorded a 3.9% decline in the third quarter over the third quarter of 2010." Possibly seeing a bottom in the market prices of single family house, it noted that "over the last year home prices in most cities drifted lower. The plunging collapse of prices seen in 2007-2009 seems to be behind us. Any chance of sustained recovery will probably need a stronger economy." Other news from Florida concurred that the real estate recovery is still weak. "Florida is another foreclosure-studded state where home prices continue to get hammered."

The challenge of taking control of assets to preserve them including shifting some assets to gold and other precious metals requires serious choices.
